Head of ESG for a fast growing private technology metals investment company.

 

The Opportunity:

A market-leading, technology metals investment company seeks a talented and highly motivated ESG specialist with experience in the natural resources sector, to manage and lead all aspects of the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance work.

Location: London (with potential for flexibility).  Overseas travel required.

Salary: competitive, depending on experience

 

About The Company:

The company is building a portfolio of assets to secure supply of the metals that are essential for the transition to renewable energy systems and electric mobility.  It invests and build projects that mine, process, and recycle metals including: lithium, nickel, cobalt, tin, rare earths, and vanadium.   The current portfolio includes operating mines, processing facilities and Li-ion battery recycling in South America, North America, and East Africa.  

The Company will continue its rapid growth by expanding its current operations and making new investments into the best projects from its increasing pipeline.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • In-line with the company’s ESG related commitments and policies, develop the overarching ESG framework
  • Conduct the pre-investment ESG due diligence.  Advise the investment team on the ESG risks of the investment. 
  • In conjunction with the investee management teams:
    • conduct detailed, on-the ground Environmental, Social and Governance assessments of each investee company
    • develop and implement suitable Action Plans to mitigate ESG threats and exploit ESG opportunities.
  • During the tenure and lifecycle of an investment, work with investee companies to continue to improve their ESG performance and robustness.
  • Develop a portfolio wide carbon accounting assessment
  • Manage the company’s commitment to supply chain traceability
  • Develop further comparative risk analysis tools to assess the company’s asset ESG performance
  • Manage and deliver all Company level reporting requirements

 

The candidate will have experience:

  • leading ESG related projects ‘on-the-ground’ in developing economies
  • working in mining operations
  • reporting in-line with, and a have full working knowledge of, recognised ESG standards and frameworks (IFC Standards, Equator Principles, OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals, etc.)
  • developing and implementing ESG programmes and improvement road maps for operating companies.
